A Guide to Fragrance

Aesop’s editorial content often goes well beyond the product itself. This long-form guide explores the language of perfumery, from notes and fragrance families to the more personal side of choosing and experiencing scent.
 

The work

I translated an earlier version of the guide from English into Spanish, working across specialist fragrance terminology, explanatory content and more evocative passages while preserving Aesop’s distinctive, considered way with words. (Much of the current text still reflects my work, although the page has since been updated by the brand.)

LIFE SCIENCES • TRANSLATION & SUBTITLING

Life/2021 Nephrology Campus

Life/2021 brought together scientists and clinical practitioners to discuss developments in nephrology, with a particular focus on chronic kidney disease, dialysis and renal replacement therapy. The sessions were later made available as webinars.
 

The work

I translated and subtitled around 30 webinars into Spanish — roughly 50,000 words of specialist nephrology content — including the subtitle spotting required for audiovisual delivery.

LIFE SCIENCES • PATIENT CONTENT

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

The European Lung Foundation works to bring patients, the public and healthcare professionals together to improve lung health. Its information hub includes resources designed to help patients understand different lung conditions, their diagnosis and treatment.
 

The work

I translated patient-facing information on several lung conditions from English into Spanish, including this fact sheet on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The work called for medical accuracy without losing sight of the person reading it: someone looking for clear answers about a condition that may be entirely new to them.

Why Barcelona Locals Really Hate Tourists

The Independent is a British newspaper established in 1986. Back in 2017, when I was living in Barcelona, they reached out to me to write an article about the rising feeling of rejection towards tourism among the local population.

The work

I wrote the original article in English, totalling 1,200 words, helping British people undestand the reasons behind the “Tourist Go Home” messages that started appearing in the streets of Barcelona back then.

Reavey Brothers Short Film

Reavey Brothers is a short film based on the true story of the Reavey Brother killings in a trouble-ridden 1976 Northern Ireland, written and directed by their nephew John Reavey.

The work

I translated and subtitled the film from English into Spanish, including spotting.
